Hi I have a e46 after a couple of minutes of starting the car from cold the temperature gauge goes straight to red I have changed both temperature sensors and the thermostat and the water pump but the problem is the same can anyone please help me
which E46? Built year/month, engine? Which p/n are the temperature sensors you installed? The one for the DME and the cluster gauge are different.
Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
Google “BMW E46 hidden OBC functions.” Test #2 will show you if the cluster is ok. What brands are the sensors? Aftermarket sensors are a big no-no.
Yea you should be able to do a gauge sweep test this would eliminate the gauge but I forget how to do it
I would get OBDFusion and use its dashboard to see what temp you are reading. The cluster functions are a pain.
Are you certain there are no leaks?
did you replace the sensor in the lower radiator hose or the one under the intake manifold
Are you having any symptoms of overheating? How is the cooling system pressure when this is occurring?
Are you absolutely certain that the cooling system is bled of air? Air in the system can appear as overheating. Don't forget to get a new expansion tank cap while you're at it.
