    Brake Upgrade

I bought a set of 530i calipers and carriers to do a upgrade to the brakes on my 528i wagon.

Today I went to pop the pistons out so I can rebuild the calipers. Well, one came out and the other is siezed. Looking back I should have just stepped on the brake pedal after taking the calipers loose and removing the pads. That would have popped them out easy peasy.

Now I have them sitting in a bucket of WD40. Hopefully that will let me get the other one out. If that fails I saw another 530i in the intake part of the junk yard. Maybe second times the charm. It has a sport wheel too, not that it would fit my single stage car.

Saw two other sport wheels in the yard, a single stage that looked so baked and tore up I thought someone had put it in a oven, and a dual stage wheel that someone had pried the //M badge off of. The button modules on both had heavy wear.

Got air to use to pop the piston out?

Yes, shop air failed to pop the one piston. It also wont rotate in its bore. I'm probably going to have to find a different caliper but why give up so easily. I had the one gallon can if WD40 already.

Soak, push in, use air to pop out support the "Ears" of the caliper with a piece of wood so when the piston exits it will not break or crack the caliper itself.
Try these steps: Push in the pistons back in with a caliper pad spreader or a SOFT hammer and make sure you use some wood for protection EVERYTIME, pressurize with air, repeat. It will pop out. Next shoot WD-40 into the bleed screw hole, soak 24 hrs, pressurize. May take 3- 5 trys but they will pop out.

Sooner or later it will pop out. Throw away the pistons as you will find water corrosion has eaten all the Chrome coating off the piston.

They are going to soak for a couple of days. The dust seal were totally distroyed and the exposed ridge was corroded but on the one piston that did come out the part that was in the bore was in perfect shape.

Not yet. This project is not a immediate thing. The longer the soak the better.
