Instrument cluster flickering

Hello! I noticed that my speedometer backlight was flickering sometimes on one side. But it is happening with only red lights when it is night time or dark outside. When the dashboard is using white lights everything works fine. When it starts to flicker it usually flickers for 1 to 3 seconds and it happens randomly when driving or standing still.

Did you ever figure out the cause, or fix? I have a similar issue in the same spot on mine. Sometimes it’s illuminated, sometimes it’s not.

I have a 1985 325e ( E 30 ) with an instrument cluster that needs repair. I was having a problem with my car battery draining within 1 week. I have a temperature gauge that is not working. When i disconnected the instrument cluster, i no longer have the dead battery issue .
Do i need to send the cluster out for repair ? Replacement of batteries within cluster ?
Anyone have experience in this ?
