I recently purchased a 2008 BMW X5, and the radio is working fine. 4 days inn, the radio/tones/speakers or whatever it is is skipping. I haven’t been able to listen to the radio because it will not stop. I don’t know if it’s a problem with the speakers or what it is, but I’m a girl and I have no clue what to do. I really can’t justify taking It to a mechanic for something so small, so any ideas as to how I can troubleshoot and or solve this would be much appreciated.
You’re in Louisiana, any water damage to the car? What do you mean by “skipping”? Does the sound cut out? I highly doubt it’s the speakers as they fail individually and not at the same time. Does the car have any other electrical or electronic issues?
Hi,
When you say it's 'skipping' to me that means like when you press the F.Fwd button on a CD and the music skips through quickly so you can find a portion of a song to listen to. This obviously can't be done when listening to a FM/AM radio broadcast. Can you say if the 'sound' happens as soon as you switch the audio system on? if you try to select a local FM radio station, is it still happening? same if you choose to play a CD ?
I suspect it's a 'sound' thats being generated due to another issue and its constant with the audio system regardless of what you are trying to listen to. That leads me to believe it's faulty/failing audio modules or, another component in the car is failing/causing interference. You'll perhaps need to take the car into an auto electrician and/or a reputable car audio installer to see what could be the issue. Before doing that, please also post this in the E70 X5 section as other owners will see this and perhaps know / suggest things in the meantime to help.
Cheers, Dennis!
