I bought a 328is with a business radio, and it doesnt work. wiring harness looks fine, fuses are ok, even tried some random reset sequences i found online and nothing works. Even tried putting in a new head unit that was already wired for an e36. once i find my test probe ill poke the wires and give updates. just wondering if anyone knows any security feautures hindering the radio or anything im just not thinking of?
You have to enter a security code to activate it.

Your key must be in swiched on. An led flashes on the radio when off but powered connected. If the display works... it should say CODE...when powered on. Pressing buttons should respond with a beep. The radio does fail but a 12 V direct and 12 switch should be available if OEM.
it has no power

obviously the key has to be on, no led flashes or anything when i start the car. No screen, no nothing.
There are a surprising number of fuses involved with the radios in these cars. I assume you've checked them all. When I purchased mine. There were two blown fuses for the radio power and the fuse in the cd changer was blown.
I checked the two fuses under the hood and they were ok, i didnt really look for a fuse when i looked at the radio because there a was alot of rust on the rear lower end of the radio, like water had sat inside the back of the radio for awhile so i was distracted, ill have to go check that one, and the cd changer in the trunk turns on and cycles through the trays when i turn the car on.
