I have a 2008 335I coupe with 125K miles. Would it be ok to add a performance chip to this car? I will not be driving it that hard, I'm 65 years old and just thought if I could get a bit more performance out of this car I would, really like this car. Maybe upgrade the air filter too? What you you guys suggest? Don't want to go crazy just maybe a mild upgrade. Thanks!
The later ECUs don't hold the tune in a removable chip - those were more commonly seen in the '80s and early '90s. In this case, you would need something that can connect to the OBD2 port, read, and edit the map.
And beware of anyone claiming to sell a "chip" for these cars; you're typically getting a two cent resistor in a sixty dollar package.

BMW - where "Why doesn't everybody build cars the way they do?" meets "Why can't they build a car the same way everyone else does it?"
Look at JB4, MHD, Cobb and Dinan for examples of tunes and piggybacks. You can certainly add one at 125k. I have one in an 08 E61 535xi with 150k. Expect more boost to highlight issues with your car such as tires ignition coils, old plugs with opened gaps, leaking valve cover gasket, old and cracked boost reference lines, wastegate flappers that don’t seal, goo and carbon in the intake ports. The extra power is fun.
Thnaks!
