So my airbag, traction control, and brake lining lights, as well as the handbrake light are on..... abs is chattering a little once in a while. car runs and drives fine, no check engine light. Where do I start? and can anyone recommend a cheap scan tool that resets/checks airbag and abs codes in addition to cel? Thanks all!
I’d check the voltage at the battery and at the jumper post located under the red plastic cover under the hood. Check it when the car is:
- off
- engine idling - engine revving at 2000rpm.
Also, remove the negative/ground cable from the battery. Then disassemble the jump post to make sure the cables’ lugs are clean. Reassemble and make sure it’s tight. This is where the main battery cable connects with a cable that goes to the alternator and the starter. Reconnect the ground/negative cable to the battery. Sparks are ok.
I left the battery disconnected overnight with the battery on a charger, going to check and reinstall all the connections, I was suspecting a weak battery. Posts on battery are spotless, and the battery is a BMW brand which might mean its the original and 10 years old, previous owner kept good records and does not mention ever changing it.
