IMG_3183.jpgIMG_3188.jpgIMG_3180.jpgIMG_3181.jpgHi. I recently bought a 2000 Z3 (E36/7) that had two warning lights- Airbag and ASC. I pushed the ASC button on the console and it went right through to the inside. Looked like a previous owner had glued the shell in place. I took the adjoining blank cover off and probed around and found an indicator light (orange) of some sort on a rectangular circuit board with four connecting wires out the back that fit the opening, but clearly not the ASC switch. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

Thoughts about what in particular?

I'm trying to figure out what that indicator light that I fished out of the console is.
Ah the pictures help a bit...
Id remove it and look for a part # on the button. Or whatevers left of it

Thanks. Probably the best way to go.
you fished out the internals of the ASC button, sans plastic cap. The indicator light is the backlight.
Once you get the ASC switch replaced, you'll need a good scanner with BMW software to read the trouble codes in the Airbag and ABS modules. A normal scanner will only read the engine computer (DME).
INPA is a good scanner and is well supported by a user on this forum. Here is the link. https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...xperimentation

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.
Thanks Kolosy. I was hoping someone would identify it as such. I'm guessing a new switch won't solve my ASC light, but a good place to start.
Muzz258. I agree. I thought I had done my research and bought an Autophix 7910 specifically to help with these two issues, but even with the 20 pin adapter, it won't read out for either one. Very disappointing. I had an old code reader specific for BMW airbags that is telling me both pretensioners are bad, so I'm going to replace. I may take your advice with the INPA scanner to figure out the ASC issue. Thanks again guys.
2nd photo looks like an OBC connector. When I swapped from a clock to OBC on my '99, I found the car is pre-wired for both (actually can run both at the same time). However, no idea if the facelift console got the same pre-wiring, nor do I know what the back of the round OBC looks like.
