2006 525xi E60 "Head Unit Not Correctly Programmed"

2006 525xi with unknown history. When I turn on the car I have to OK the error "Head Unit not programmed correctly."

The audio system works flawlessly as far as I can tell, but it is annoying to have to OK the error every time.

I haven't been able to find much about this error. In INPA all of the VIN #'s match.

I have coded modules before, but not actually "programmed" one. I have an OBD KCAN cable off of eBay, so I'm not sure I dare programming, but basic coding should be OK.

Using NCSEXPERT, I did "process car." it took about 10 minutes and processed the whole car (light flashing and all kinds of crazy noises lol), but the error is still there.

    Any suggestions?

I screwed around with NCSEXPERT and tried to update the coding. . . It then added the error "Head Unit not coded correctly" in addition to "not programmed correctly." they are definitely separate errors.

I just did "process car" with the MASK ecu selected and the coding went back to good.

Only the "Head Unit Not Programmed Correctly" remains. Whew.

    - - - Updated - - -

I also downloaded DIS5.7 since that is mentioned in a few potential solutions. I can't get it to work with my KCAN cable.

do I have to buy the optical device to program the car with DIS?

    tried a few things:

    https://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/threa...rectly.573553/

You need to change vin in mask/ccc and get the unit coded, after replacing it, to get rid of that message.

RESPONSE: This addresses "Head unit not coded correctly," but doesn't fix my programming problem.

    https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...correctly-quot

Open Dis and wait finish diagnose car... select next button...

view windows DIAGNOSIS SYMPTOM SELECTION select AUDIO VIDEO NAVIGATION.... M-ASK MALFUCTION select next

The diagnosis step now view in windows diagnosis test schedule

    select next and start test...

in next windows insert 005 for reprogram module ;-)

    All ok ;-)

    (CONFIRMED IN ANOTHER THREAD)

RESPONSE: I can't get DIS to work with my INPA cable.

Just fire up NCS and load expertmode and write the default coding back to the module.

NCS will know the default coding - it will select the appropriate details from your VIN and code the module to the factory settings.

RESPONSE: The default coding still has this issue. . . It's not a coding problem, it's a programming problem.

    JUST HIDE THE ERROR:

I coded my MASK module to default and modified the "CODIER_CHECK" and "LOGISTIK_CHECK" to off using NCS Expert. This got rid of the error on the head unit (Not a real solution, just hiding the error I assume) as I still have no sound in car, sos error and airbag errors.

RESPONSE: I changed both of these values to nicht_activ and verified they were set by reading the coding again from the MASK module. The error is still there.

I was doing it wrong. . I was able to disable the message by:

1.Execute CODIERINDEX_LESEN on the MASK module which loads the parameters into the FSW_PSW.TRC trace file.
    2. Copy all of the parameters to the FSW_PSW.MAN man file.
    3. Change LOGISTIK_CHECK to "nicht_activ" in the MAN file.
    4. Then execute CODIEREN on the MASK module to load the change.

    error gone.

I understand that this doesn't fix anything, but since everything seems to work in my car, this is good enough for me.

If you can get DIS to work it is probably a better solution.
