Disconnecting Head Unit Wire Harness From OEM Plug

How do i separate the two? I am trying very carefully not to damage the OEM plug, but i cannot seem to get the two separate. Also, when connected, should the two plugs lock together at the top of the OEM plug? At present, my does not, thinking this could be the issue with my current head unit.

You slide a flat screwdriver in (there is a diagram right on the plug) and help it slide up, releasing the other connector a bit.
