I finally got the rear end back together today, and popped in the KONIs (the 8040 1217 SPORT). It came with a spacer for the lower mount, and two large spacers ostensibly for the upper. With my E46 cab RSMs, only one spacer was enough to have enough thread for the top locknut, so used that. I also didn't transfer anything from the old shocks, as the KONIs came with their own metal dust cover and internal bump stop, so I assumed that it's not needed. Specifically thinking of #6 here -- https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=33_0459. It had a similar shape to the top of the KONI dust boot, and would have rubbed.
Here's what I ended up with:

E46 Convertible or E46M3 Convertible RSMs?
#6, #9, and #11 were reused, correct?
I think I would have added the Z3 reinforcement plates.

M3 can. I have the ecs plates in place. 9 and 11 reused, 6 is the one I was saying I didn’t because I don’t think it would fit and would just sit weird.
I don’t have an image of the top of the bare shock, however I am fairly certain #6 (dish down), #9 (paper gasket), #11 (dish up) are reused.
Unless the top of the shock replicates #6. Normally, #6 prevents the top of shock from pushing thru the RSM.

That's kind of what I'm saying -- the top of the shock now looks like this:

so it looks like (from the top)
#11 dish up
RSM (Lemforder E46 M3 Cab)
one of the big spacers from the pic above
dust boot (pic)
Ummm, I think I would be using #6 (33522225906) seems more robust than a flat washer.

#6 is now the famous $100 plate, my good man.

Sell 'em to pay for your shocks.
Not sure I follow that last.
That plate is part of the original dust boot, and part of what it does is cover the top of the bump stop, and keep
the OE dust boot clipped in place. Since the konis have a hard dust boot, and the bump stop is inside, adding that plate will not do any of those things. On the mount side, the new spacer is bigger than the rubber patch of the mount, so it shouldn’t be able to push through?
Unless I’m missing something.
