    E92 328i 2008 Not Cranking

    Hi Guys,

My E92 328i 2008 with the GM auto transmission was driving fine - 100K miles with no recent mechanical or electrical issues. Yesterday, I tried to start the car but it just went back to sleep mode and the wipers couldn't be turned off. if I press the start button without pressing the brake pedal, I get a yellow exclamation mark, and airbag, and gearbox red warning lights. Also, the gear lever is locked into P, but everything in the car works perfectly (power windows, lights, AC, radio, power seats.. etc).

I have tried the following with no success:
    1. Disconnecting my IBS
    2. Replacing the battery
    3. measuring the grounding voltage across the red jumping terminal and engine block - 12.3V
    4. Using the mechanical release to shift to N then try start the car
    5. checking all fuses - all measured fine
    6. Removing the CAS relay (30g relay) and re-seating it - ** I noticed that the relay was quite warm but not hot. not sure if this is normal.
    7. Using the spare key

So I have scanned the car using INPA and got the following codes after clearing all the errors:
    -CAS A0B5
    A118

    -KOMBI A3AA
    A3AC
    A3B9
    A550
So, I have further investigated the CAS module, and found that Terminal 15 and terminal 30 were getting 12 volts. However, when I try to start the car Terminal 50 is not getting activated. So, I looked at the digital status of CAS and found that it was not getting a signal that the Gear is in Park or Neutral (brake and elv release signals were active).

I tried to connect to the gearbox module, but INPA couldn't connect (No response from control unit - IFH-0009).

Anyone had a similar experience or could help with this? I would greatly appreciate your help.

    Thank you every one

    Welcome to the Forum!

Most people at home don't know what those codes are for they are not BMW tech with the book sitting next to them. What I am trying to say is anytime you post codes, please include the description word for word from ISTA or INPA.

As for the trans, I would see about check the connection, for you know INPA is working and talking to the car.

Thanks for your response! Honestly, I think I didn't have the correct code explanation that's why I didn't post them.

Could you please let me know which connection should I check? I am not really familiar with trans connections or the location of the TCM.

Thanks! I have learnt a lot by browsing this forum, but I finally came to an issue that needed to post a new thread.

Honestly, I didn't post the code description, because I wasn't sure if the ones I have are correct.

Could you please let me know which trans connection to check? I am not really familiar with the trans or TCM connection location.

INPA is communicating properly with all modules except EGS.

Here are a couple of useful websites:

    Parts book - www.realoem.com

    Repair manual - https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/

In the repair manual, you will find what's called the component locator. It also has the wiring diagrams, repair instructions, and much more. All you need for both websites is the last 7# of your vin, so it can properly identify the car.
