They usually delete swirl flaps on the M57 diesel because the design was poor and very prone to carbon buildup and eventual damage. You will lose some torque, but it's a common procedure that the M57 people do.
BMW heavily updated that system for the N47/N57 engines. I guess lesson learned?
It's just a simple plug with an o-ring, not sure what quality needs to be there as long as they seal and don't break off.
