We lost Jim Levie on July 19, 2020. Comments from Bimmerforum members are here.
The following obituary was copied from this site;
On Sunday, July 19, James (Jim) Kellum Levie III, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 73. Jim Levie was born on November 2, 1946 in Atlanta, Georgia to Avis Nash Levie and James Kellum Levie Jr. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathleen Levie, their sons Kelwyn and Ryan Levie, and grandchildren Elijah Angel Levie, Persephone Hall and Delilah Levie.
Jim served honorably as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Infantry in Vietnam in 1969 – 1970, receiving the Purple Heart. He remained in the Army Reserves following his active service, attaining the rank of Captain. After his return from Vietnam, he worked for several local businesses, notably Southerland Photo and UAH before entering the emerging computer technology field, first for Remtech and later for Dynetics. Jim studied at UAH, Athens College and Southwestern at Memphis, but was primarily self-educated.
He had the remarkable ability to enter, self taught, almost any field of endeavor that caught his interest; audio electronics, graphic arts, cabinetry, wood turning, precision metalworking, and even color photography in the days of wet chemistry. He could quickly reach a professional level and produce beautiful work. At one time he did prototyping for vision-testing apparatus, and made color-accurate wiring keys for telephone assembly.
However, the subject which held his interest throughout his adult life was that of performance automobiles. This began with a 1961 Volkswagen Beetle which he customized for slalom racing on shopping center parking lots in the days when stores were closed on Sundays and lasted through his prized BMWs later in life as an active member of NASA (National Auto Sports Association).
In the light of the current pandemic, a virtual memorial online is planned for August or September. To be notified about the memorial or to participate or contribute a memory, you are invited to email jimlevie3memorial@gmail.com.

Jim taught me much, for which I will be forever grateful. He shared his incredible mechanical knowledge, with a race instructor's "here's how it works" wisdom, which perpetuates his gifts to us all, forever.
May we all strive to live our lives with such purpose, such generosity, and such joy!
