    M52b28 head on S52b32

Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum so please forgive me if my format is incorrect.

The head gasket blew on my S52 and the head is slightly warped.

I recently purchased an excellent condition m52b28 head for my s52b32. It was much cheaper than the cost of machining the old head, so I planned to use only the casting and switch all the internal components over.

When placing my old s52 head gasket over the new m52 head, the coolant passages are different shapes and the gasket actually covers part of them. It seems that many people have used these heads interchangeably. These are not photographs of the heads, but they are exactly the same.

The m3 head looks like this https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...bottom-end-600

And the 328 head looks like this http://www.2040-parts.com/_content/i...093382/001.jpg

I did purchase the s52 head gasket, should I have gotten the m52 gasket? Or is something I have wrong?

    Thank you for you help!

Took a look at some of my older photos to see if the holes look different between the block and head of my S52. As you discovered, they are different, I'm not sure why, but that's the way it is. (Who knows why? I wanna know now.)

As far as your M52 head fitting on your S52 block with S52 head gasket goes, the head will work/fit as the M52 and S52 heads are the exact same part (same part number). However, the head gaskets are not the same, and I'm unsure if that comes down to a difference in design/layout, or just thickness. My guess is you should be fine using the S52 head gasket as you are using an S52 block with a head that is effectively also an S52 head. If it doesn't work, then mine shouldn't be working

Ran an M52 head on my S52 for a long time using an S52 gasket.
