Hi guys,
I notice that I have some stains on my 1990 sedan roof lining (please see picture). Not sure what they are but I think they are either from the glue that sticks the roof lining to the foam above it. Not sure. The question is, how do I clean it? I tried some fabric cleaners, isopropyl alcohol, nothing worked. I don't wanna use paint thinner coz I'm afraid my roof lining got damaged. Please help
Thanks

The pics are not showing up
Thanks for the suggestion, guys.
I fixed the photo, hopefully it'll show up.
I like the idea of ratllecan the lining since I dont wanna replace the whole thing. Any suggestion on what paint i should use? Any particular brand?

One thing you might try before painting is a cleaner with an oxygen based bleach. (e.g. OxiClean) Here's the one I'd try https://www.oxiclean.com/en/products...-stain-remover
"Howdy, Folks!"
1986 Delphin 528e - Roof rack equipped lumber hauler.
1989 Zinnoberrot 325iX Sedan - I miss this car. (Deceased)
1998 Avus Blau 328iC - Someone else's project now
2008 Platinum-Beige X3 3.0si - Current project

there isn't any foam behind the lining though, is there? I don't remember my cars having foam backing boards or anything in them.
I have no idea on a cleaner though. that stuff is so old that it could just be aging to that color. you might have to use some kind of white shoe leather dye in those paint on bottles to go back to white
No e30s again.
Regarding possible paint choice, Personally I’d go with something dark whichever fits the rest of the interior.
Also; I suppose the paint should be able to resist some warmth.
I haven’t tried rattlecanning it myself by the way, so best see if you can find examples online of this giving good results first but I suppose it would work..
I don’t remember foam at the back of the fabric either. There was some residue when I removed mine, but that mostly was old glue.
Thanks for your replies. Really appreciate it guys. I think I might try the oxygen based cleaner first before going all out painting the whole headliner
If you end up painting, I'd think you'd want to use a vinyl dye spray.
