Are there any budget scanners for a 94 us spec e36? Have some engine codes i need to check. Dont really have a old pc with serial port for inpa ads interface. Or maybe i can use a usb to com adapter?
INPA with OBD2-USB cable would be a great start.
Ok thx. Will any cable off ebay do? Tried the stomp test and got 1000 code. No other fault codes, strange. So reset it and now its 1444 code.
Yes, any INPA cable from Ebay should work, they usually have a sticker that says INPA Compatible.
False, the INPA K-DCAN cable will not work on the 1994 with the old Bosch DME. That is ADS (L-Line) only.

Ok, my bad, thank you for correction. I have used INPA on my e36 some years ago, maybe it was a SIEMENS unit..
What cable/software would you suggest?
Either ADS interface with a laptop that has a native serial port (very old), or an ICOM interface which connects to laptops with LAN cable.
