going to look at another Z.

I currently have a 97 z3 with a 4cylinder green. I lover the car just took it on a 1300 mile trip to RMNP. On the way back I saw an add for a1998 z with 2.8 with 42k. I missed it. Now there is another Blue 98 low miles with the 2.8. I found and I am going to see it. guy says serviced at dealer. I assume I have to do the cooling system similar to the 97. I know some of the years with six cylinders there is something about the fans. Is there a good link that I can read up on it? IS the 2.8 in that group? it is a manual transmission.

I also have a 2002 530. I know it has more power and has a lot of differences from to engine in the Z. Are there things I should look at on the 1998 2.8 that I didn't need to look at on my 4banger?

I am kinda excited I have always loved blue cars but none of my tools have ever been Blue. my truck didn't count.

thanks for the help and I will post picks if I get it. if not I will also post why.

engine question. How can I tell which engine is in the car? is there a production date that splits it? or can I some how tell by looking at the engine the M52 or the M52TU. it looks like they were both produced in 1998. but you think you would cut it over to the updated model on all cars.

going to look at another Z.

    Here is a rudimentary chart

The M52 single VaNos head and M52B28TU dual-VaNos heads and valve covers have distinctive different shape.

    Review the “Models” tab

Someone also mention placing the last seven characters of the VIN in www.realoem.com and observing the part diagram for “Engine”

Ok i can see the difference at the front i looked at my 530 engine and compaed it to the single vanos. I do plan to put the vin in realoem site as well. I was reading the page you linked. Thats what brought up the question. I have to wait until friday to see the car as the guy is out of town.
