Everyone that has spent 5+ yrs here at bf.c has come across Jim Levie's posts. Between 2004 and 2017 he wrote almost 26,000 posts, almost all of them to help people with BMW troubles. 26,000 posts! Wow. As long as Bimmerforums live, Jim's posts will continue to help people--that includes some of the best diagnostic write-ups you will ever see.
My old friend Jim Levie is in hospice care near his home in Huntsville AL.
Jim started racing SpecE30 in 2008. For years we spent a weekend each month parked next to each other at various race tracks around the SE. Just like he helped people here are bf.c, he helped people in the paddock too. On several occasions, in the SpecE30 paddock, young BMW enthusiasts would walk up to me and say "is the jlevie here?" I'd turn in Jim's directin and holler "hey Jim, more groupies," point to them and roll my eyes. The enthusiasts would immediately surround Jim and fawn over him as if it was Elvis parked next door.
When I try to help strangers in a forum re. their car troubles, I end up sounding like an irritating know-it-all. But Jim radiated so much "niceness," both on line and in person, that everyone loved him.
Pics. Jim, me and 2 others own a Lemons/Chump car for a while. This was 2009. One blazing hot afternoon at Roebling Road, Jim announced that the Lemons POS needed SpecE30 suspension. I was distracted and didn't pay attention. A couple hours later, Jim had swapped out the whole damn suspension.

The 2nd pic is the group racing the Lemons car at Carolina Motorsports Park. Also 2009. Jim is 2nd from L. He was never w/o coffee. I am far right.

dang. I guess its not looking good for him if he is in hospice. hopefully he is comfortable and well cared for.
No e30s again.
Count me as one of those Jim Levie groupies. He taught me A LOT !
I have missed his wisdom for several years now, and I wish him Godspeed in whatever journeys and races lie ahead for him.

What?! Very sorry to hear this as Jim has taught me tons as well. We've never met but I can tell he is a great guy from his dedication to us and the marque. I'm sending good thoughts to him and his family, wishing him the best. Whatever happens, he will live on here and elsewhere online as the man who got most of us out of one jam or another! Thank you, Jim!
I am wishing him all the best.
This is sad news. I remember attending random car meets or even large events like Bimmerfest and you could always stand around with other E30 owners and enthuse about The Jim Levie.
This fills my heart with sorrow. Not only did Jim teach me so much directly, his posts enlightened me about the why of things that helped me in my own discoveries. Thank you Jim for all you've done.

I remember and appreciate Jim’s contributions to the BMW community. Many of us learned a lot from him.

I remember his posts as far back as I can remember being a member here. His posts were always so detailed.
May he rest in peace
I, too, just returned to the forum and I'm truly sorry to learn this. Jim was an invaluable asset to the hobby and a nice guy to boot; he will be sorely missed.
