well im new on the board and just happen to see your thread. one of my friends has a 1989 alpine white m3. after his s14 blew he decided to swap a 1997 e36 3.2 obdI into it, and it is amazing. 287 hp, and wicked fun to drive it would bolt on to your 2.5l engine mounts. just an i idea , him and his dad did it all themselves.
im not looking foward to a whole engine, im only 15 ...but i see on your signature that you are looking for a new bimmer? Go with a e30

alright i understand your looking for somthing more bolt on. i love the e30s and am looking for one but i feel like i need more power than even the e30 m3 would offer. oviously this is where you are at also. i have ridden in my friends M3 conversion and am just addicted. im just not sure if i find the swap fisable for me, not sure i can handle it myself as he did. but I love the fact of having the original m3 its styling, and pure driving feel. by the way both of my friends 19 and 21 years old, me being 19, live on my street with a 95 dinan m3 and the 89 e30 e36 conv. i have another with a 330ci dinan auto, out of all three i would choose the e30 , it pulls the hardest catches the most looks and owns the other cars in almost every catagory other than interior comfort.
there is only one thing to do......... TURBO. contact Todd Dehate at www.turbochargingdynamics.com. He is building my turbo and he has a few turbo cars of his own. I rode in his 1986 e28 535i turbo. Let me tell you, that thiung would blow the doors off oif my dad's corvette. Give him a shout. PM me if you need any more info.
