Hi.
I'm Planning to change valve cover gasket for my e46 M54 engine.
Local parts store has Autostar brand.
Is it reliable?
Most of the DIY guides I've watched recommend Victor Reinz which i can purchase on eBay.
Any advice.

If the factory one lasted 10+ years, I stick with that. While the cost maybe a bit higher, you don't want to do this job a second time because of a poor quality gasket a year or 2 later.

I had excellent results with Elring valve cover gasket sets. Change the 13 grommets also.
Hi.
Thanks for the response.
Took time to respond. Was in hospital looking after Dad. He passed on last month.
I planned on buying the full set like you advised. But the parts supplier insisted that those do not need to be changed. I bought the gasket but have not changed it yet.
Perhaps I need to order Victor Reinz with the grommets.
I also learnt that I need to use a sealant on certain corner parts of the gasket to prevent possible oil leaks. I think I will just to follow the detailed recommendations for my peace and joy rides!
Thanks for the reminder.
Hi.
Thanks for the reference. I learnt something.
Took time to respond. Was offline for a while.
Thanks again.
Will share what I will do.
My condolences on the passing of your dad.
I stay away from Reinz, and prefer Elring. If the grommets are original they definitely need to be replaced. Go to FCPEuro to buy the gasket set and the grommets.
