Replaced GM3, now the trunk lock doesn't work!

As noted in other threads, my E39 remote locking quit working. Replaced the GM3 with a used one ($25) and recoded, then the locking worked but the wipers wouldn't! So I returned it for another GM3 (this one a later .C10 from an X5 E53). Now everything works... except the trunk lock!

Trunk won't respond to the remote button OR the under-dash button... and won't even open with the trunk handle, as though it was deadlocked. Only the key in the trunk lock will lock/unlock it. I tried full-unlocking (key fully counterclockwise). No clunk from the solenoid.
Also, when I started my test drive, the MID said "Trunklid Open" even though it was firmly closed.

I've checked all the trunk settings in the NCS menu and have tried changing a couple without success. My car does not have hydraulic opening (think that's for an X5 that this GM3 came out of), nor a soft touch closing (IIRC). Entries for enable trunk opening with remote, etc. are set active.

Central locking fuses are good. Exercising the central locking console button works as designed - but still can't unlock the trunk except with key.

Now what!!! Will try a battery nap but not hopeful.

Edited to add: All these categories have their (leftmost) box checked, then as below:

HYDRAUL_HECKKLAPPE Hydraulic actuated trunk lid: Nicht-activ
SCA_HECKLAPPE Trunk lid with soft-close automatic (SCA): Nicht-activ
HYD_HECKLAPPE_OHNE_PDC Hydraulic actuated trunk lid without park distance control(PDC): Nicht-activ
ZV_AGGREGATE_TYP Central locking system type: Activ
ENTFALL_ZV_BEDIENST_HECK Truck lid lock central locking functionality omitted: Nicht-activ
HECKLAPPE_ENTSICHERN Unlock trunk lid with remote control: Activ
ZV_VR_BEDIENSTELLE_HECK Central locking by key in trunk lock: Activ

Battery nap didn't help. Trunk wiring is not broken, at least visibly inside the boot. Whenever moving the car after start, "Trunklid Open" on the dash.

I put the car to sleep, and reconnected the previous module (the one with no wipers). Sure enough, the trunk unlock console button and the 1st position to lock/unlock the trunk with the key both work again. I didn't resync the remote key but I'm sure it would work too...

So I conclude that I got another bad module, this time with bad trunk function. Unless there is something special in the programming that I have to do because it's from an E53 and newer than my car?

Hoping someone with more NCS experience than me can give me a hint

I do know that the E53 has a rear hatch, and the E39 obviously has a trunk
And I've seen threads on this board where someone had a sedan GM3 that wouldn't work on their wagon - same problem (trunk actuator does nothing).
    So maybe that's my problem.

But where is the specific coding to change one trunk type to the other? I don't see anything in the TRC file (via Dummy) that selects this.
It's definitely a GM3.C10 although the original module was .C04.

Another odd data point... I walked out this evening and hit the car-unlock button on the remote - and the TRUNK unlocked! A couple of seconds later I heard the trunk actuator re-lock. Only worked once. Now this is just weird. I made sure the connectors are all seated properly.

Got it I went to the car with my laptop, opened the passenger door... and the trunk popped up!

I did some more research and determined that it's necessary to first reset the GM3 to factory defaults (for my car, not the X5 it came out of). This does not seem obvious to me, nor did I see it in the big NCS Dummy thread, but it should be emphasized...

So after creating an Expert profile with the FSW/PSW "Manipulate" box unchecked, and recoding, everything works now.
This is the instructions I used: http://blog.obdii365.com/2015/05/18/...pert-software/
