Hey guys, I’m currently replacing all the gaskets on my valve cover Of my 95 525i and I noticed inside there is a rectangular plate that was held onto the valve cover by two Philipe head screws. It had a gasket gripping the edge of the plate. It crumpled when I removed the plate. I can’t find another type of gasket because I don’t know the name of it. It doesn’t pop up when I type in inner valve cover gasket. Only the one for the 535i pops up. Can anyone help me please!
From my internet searches, that gasket cannot be bought separately.
Maybe try posting a picture here and someone can recommend a similar material for the application.

Yeah, it comes as a whole unit with the valve cover:

Your cheapest option would be to look for a used one
Wow, that’s insane. Do you think I’d be able to just put some of that liquid gasket stuff and slap it back on? I’m not sure where I’d be able to find a spare
Hmmm... I think that's risky, the liquid gasket might break apart and make a mess. I don't think that little plate is *absolutely* necessary short-term (somebody please correct me if I'm wrong); if it were me, and if I needed the car right away, I'd install the valve cover temporarily without the plate, until I can get a replacement.
I've seen used valve covers on ebay for ~$80; maybe you can find one here or on the E36 board? Not sure if there are other engine models that share that same plate.
Is that gasket a normal thick paper or rubber/plastic one? If so, a good (perhaps high-temperature) RTV should suffice. It's a baffle for the crankcase ventilation system, doesn't need to be airtight in the first place.
Huh, it’s just a baffle? Well if that’s the case then I don’t really need to bother with it then. I’ll see how it runs without it. I’ll get one if I notice anything off
