I'm a car guy, not a Bimmer guy...it's been years but I have sold 2 cars through this forum (about 12 years ago)
I am familiar with DINAN by name, my understanding it's like ROUSH in a sense.
I don't know if its a stage thing as in Stage 1 - 5 each being more speed parts and more $
If I were to pick a stage for this car I'd say Stage 1
I believe it's exhaust and intake...that said It's a DINAN.
Wanna see it...AWESOME ! Anytime, nothing to hide, just want to sell it.
Purchased about 2 years ago, did the mentioned work, drove it a bit, he and his wife love the car, have 3 kids, just not practical for them.

I thought I was on the Bimmer Forum???
You are but your first post is a for sale ad and it doesn't have any pictures.
You got me there...Not sure how to put them up.
I have plans on listing it on eBay...I mention that only because I've been selling there 20 years.
Plan to post the 12 pictures there, help on posting pictures here would be appreciated, I only have an apple computer to us for that task if that matters.
Any help appreciated...Pictures
Saw the car in person yesterday as far as anything mechanical, engine etc great.
Paint is vibrant and interior is very good, but all in all it's more cared for driven car than a cared for classic, if this makes sense.
it never lived a had life, but like it was commuted in for a few years...
I amend my original price to $8500
I won't bite you can ask to see pictures, no-one has offered to help me put them up...
You all are a tight lipped bunch
Again been on eBay 20 years your are welcome to look up my ID same as here paperclerk
I really thought there would at least be some passing by interest, that said Covid has crushed to car sales vibe around here in NJ unless buying from a dealer...
Anyway, lets pretend there are 20 pictures depicting a car that needs a great buff job, has a very good interior, needs new front window trim and mechanically is a 9-10
Am I crazy asking $8500
Asking price might be reasonable. I spent $4K more for a 2003 540i M Sport with similar mileage but it was cosmetically excellent and had fully refreshed suspension and the timing chain guides were replaced. Problem is your lack of feedback and presence on this forum and the fact that folks dump these cars when they get up in the mileage range where the timing chain guides and Vanos units go bad. That is typically a $3500+ job in NJ. Lack of pictures hurts your ability to sell also. I would be interested if I did not already buy mine but if there was no proof of maintenance to the timing chain guides, I don't think I would pay $8500. Too much risk of a very expensive repair. It also looks suspicious that your buddy who owns a shop is asking you to sell it for him. What has he got to hide? Sorry for the negativity but that is probably why you are not getting a lot of interest.

Mark Appreciate the info.
Tell you what, anyone come out and see the car...Will meet at owners home and before you see the car I'll hand you over $100 bill.
If the car is junk you keep the $100 and walk away...
As I mentioned, I sell on eBay have been there for 20 years, go by same name there...Paperclerk
Send me a message I'll respond.
As far a fishy, I agree always a guy selling a car for another guy...
I have personally bought and sold (as a business) about 30 cars....I have gone to see 100.
Second you see a junker you walk away, because you want to see the car doesn't mean you have to buy it.
As far as maintenance there is a good amount of history....just come and see it
I won't bite, and you don't have to buy it.
I don't know what doing a Timing chain entails, I'd bet if you bought the parts and wanted it done, I'd say add $500 for labor and done...that's assuming it has not as of yet been done.
I would check this car out if I did not just buy one. I will add that timing chain job on this engine is far more complicated than typical American V-8 engines. No way it can be done for $500 labor. Even experienced mechanics need a day to do this job. It also requires specialized camshaft timing tools. Any BMW specialist will know this and have the tools unless they refuse to work on this engine. I have known a few pros that would not do this job because it ties up a service bay when it could be used for faster, more profitable jobs.

I think you missed my point...$500 plus you buy the parts and no haggle on $.
but I think it's a waste of x & $, and it's just me talking, haven't cleared it with the owner.
of course another option you could (anyone) come see it take it for a ride, make an offer and years later say
"damn best car I ever bought, guy brought me to his house, we test drove the car, made me a burger, I met his whole family had a few laughs etc"
I'm just trying to gain trust.
You are all just used to dealing with used car scum of the earth
I sold 2 BMW's here years ago, both sold within 2 weeks or less and I didn't post pics back then.
Buyers said can you text me pics...I did...haha was in 2005, no iPhone, and in both cases buyer came out saw, bought.
Unfortunately my account here didn't stay active.
This car physically isn't perfect, has marks = some scratches etc...it was a commuter for some of it's life.
That's why I lowered the $, because the owner (now) is a mechanic, all he cares about is the mechanics.
I sell for a living, I look at the whole picture.
Mechanically age/miles considered, 8.5-10
body and interior 6.5-10
Car runs fantastic, it's fast as balls, hahah owners wife beat a corvette to about 90 just a week before corona hit.
Just a quick update here-- I went and checked this car out and purchased it on the spot. It was everything Dave said it was, and more. I feel lucky I got to it before those with recent WTB posts looking for this exact car figured it out.
Looking forward to sharing pics of the car as-is and after a detail.
