Luggage Rack wanted 1998 1.9

Anyone have a OEM luggage rack for the trunk of a 1998? Any infor on a location to find one?

OEM drill into the lid and are NLA. Used ones leave holes in the donor car.
Clamp on Surco racks are available.

Ah, you brought me back to 1973, when I was on my way from the NYC area to Buffalo to start college in my 65 MG Midget. It was a 400 mile drive and I bought a cheap chrome luggage mount for the trunk. They were commonly available then, especially in the good ole JC Whitney catalog. Had to drill holes and kept that on the car for the next four years. I tied (roped) a huge foot locker to it - the damn thing was about 1/4 the size of the car.

I looked for one recently, wish I'd book marked the only one I found. But someone bolted a spoiler to the trunk, so I don't think it would fit. And if it did fit, the combination of a luggage rack and a spoiler wouldn't work for me. Maybe I'll get rid of the spoiler - it's kind of useless at the low speeds my 4-banger goes. All show and no go.

So, I bought a luggage rack off a brit on eBay. It arrived and it fit. He said it was "by LP" and it took a lot of digging to determine LP is an Italian company named La Prealpina (industrial accessori Auto). Wading through the Italian-language price lists I discovered the cost is about 200 Euros which is about what I paid with shipping from the UK to the US. Now had I known, I would have purchased one new even though shipping would drive it up a bit. The part is listed as fitting an Alpha Romeo Spider '95 and Mazda Miata (MX 5). But it does fit on a Z3. The product isn't bad for the price as I wasn't going to spend $300 for chrome or $400+ for black. Pictures after installation (it clamps on the edges of the deck lid). It does seem sturdy and is rated to 30 Kg. I'm sure the edges of my deck lid will mar a bit from contact with rubber under some pressure. But I may just leave it on all the time. I can't really test it until top-down season as I want to evaluate noise and drag.

'looks good. I like the way it substantially rises at the back so your suitcase is not relying on bungee chords alone.

Black and white roundels would make for a nice finishing detail.
