Thanks for taking the time Perry, and if it's any consolation, you're less bald than I am, AND half my age (I'd gladly trade the hair for the years)!

Nice work. You make it easy to understand and follow complicated stuff. An uncommon trait these days. The lobe centerline being that far off was an eye opener.

    Hi there,

Thanks for the tutorials, I found them to be very insightful!

Would like to ask if the 60 deg after TDC is sufficient even when running aggressive cams such that there would be no piston/valve contact?

I just watched the video again and it seems like the crank position is Before TDC instead of after.

So after the lifters are set, the cams are held by timing blocks while the crankshaft is rotated back to TDC and everything gets buttoned up?

The piston position is the same at 10 deg BTDC or 10 deg ATDC so it does not matter which you check at. Yes the crank should be set to TDC when you install the sprockets and vanos unit.

Quick question, I have 264 / 256 Schrick cams in my 3L m50. With supertech valve spring package. Supercharged. I'm making 350 foot pounds of torque at 2500 RPMs. But the horsepower never really takes off on the top end. Do you think retarding the intake cam 3 or 4 degrees would be a good idea.?
