    98 528i speedometer capabilities

Hello everyone, I am a certified noob, and I was wondering (Legality questions aside) how to get my 1998 528i at top speed? I am sure that they don't put a speedo in suggesting 150 mph before the needle at 160 without the car being capable...or am I wrong. If I am, then that's cool too cause I will have learned something. So yes I love the car that I just bought, but I was also thinking of dropping in the V8 as I have one available, at some point I plan on getting as much insane hp out of the car with the current 2.8 L6 or the 8. Also their seems to be a confusion between some over the availability of superchargers and performance aftermarket parts. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be deeply grateful.

Paid $1,800 -1998 BMW 528i e39 2.8 liter I6, Dinan cold air intake, Borla Exhaust system, 162,000 maintained miles, close to mint condition. I added; 2,400 watts - 2 12" kenwood subs + 1,200 watts interior kenwoods.
Adding soon; Steering and suspension w/Dinan camber kit and strut tower brace, Koni or Bilstein shocks (haven't decided yet), stage 2-3 Performance/racing clutch and fly, and Hi Flow intake manifold/plenum, and Brembo Brakes...To start....what?😕 Folks, this is fun stuff! 😁
And I haven't done anything fun in 2 decades! 😆...Lol
Any help to get in the right direction, advice, and critics welcome! Thank you.

160 is perhaps obtainable if you should drive it off a cliff and it remains nose down.

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue

LOL, welcome to the forum certified noob.
The DME will limit you to 128 MPH unless it’s been deleted or your nose down.

I had a 98 528 sedan a few years ago, got it cheap, got it as a flipper. The car was very well maintained by a BMW shop since the car went off warranty. I know the owners, and all the techs, rear bumper just needed a respray because idiots that can’t properly parallel park. It ran great but i never took it over a hundred, sold it and doubled my money. But on my old 2000 528 wagon, I had it up to 140 many times, with the speedo error, GPS said 135. Could have gone a bit faster, but never had it past 140. On my current 2000 528 wagon, same color, same specs, but with better suspension, way lower miles, Shark injector if that really matters, seems like it gets up there quicker, I’ve had it at 143 on the speedo.
