    F30 Wastegate actuator rod snapped

    Hey there,

Strange question, my wastegate actuator rod snapped. I've fashioned a new one but i can't seem to get the error to clear. The error i'm getting is to do with the play in the valve being not the right length. Which has me wondering if i just need to clear the error with a BMW diagnostic tool, or if the length of my actuator rod is wrong. ( I've used a rod with threads on both sides so i can adjust it if need be) anyway, since the only way to know for sure what the length of that is would be to measure a real, non broken one, would anyone mind measuring that for me? Or if you have any other insights that would be great.

    That's the OEM part. I have a 2015 320i, rear wheel, manual.

If the error won't go away, and the car keeps going into boost limp mode issues, it's definitely the wrong length.

The BMW diagnostic software (ISTA) has a test plan that you have to run and it will check the actuator and tell you if it's too long or too short.

    OK,

Given that most of the shops around here are currently booked up for over a month, how do i get my hands on that software? do i need a specific diagnostic tool or is it something i need a cable for my laptop for? and what cable specifically. There seem to be a ton of different flavors out there. Thanks for your help!

Do you happen to know what that length is?

Every vehicle is different, which is why there’s a test plan to adjust it. I think ISTA can be purchased and installed on a lap top

Not weird. Happened to me too.

I think the garage just welded it back together. They never mentioned any issues and it works now.
