Hi,
I've been working on upgrading the audio system in my E36 (saloon) for a couple days.
The plan was ot have a 1000w bass driver in the trunk to replace the speakers in the back and then I was going replace the mid and tweeters in the front door and kick area.
I'm using a 600w amp in bridge mode to do this, I need the remote wire to test whether the amp and all speakers still work as they're pretty old.
I was told the remote wire was the white one in the trunk so I connected the remote connection to the amp. This didn't work,
I also tried turning the ignition and measuring the voltage through it using a multimeter but I didn't get a reading.
Any ideas as I don't really want to wire the remote from the HU back just to test the speakers.
Thanks
A
Running a remote line just to test doesn't sound hard at all. Just connect it to your head unit, and run it directly to your amp. It doesn't need to be tucked away or anything, should take 30 seconds. Run it from head unit through your flip down seats, or even out the window to the trunk. Maybe I'm misunderstanding?
You should get ~12V in the remote line from the head unit when the key is turned on.

Or, just run a wire from the battery if it’s in the trunk.
