Mysterious loss of power on s50b32 when hot
Hey guys,
There's an odd problem happening. The car has developed a slight misfire/bog when doing part throttle, and it feels like it has a lot less power.
The interesting part is that if i do a cold start, and shortly after punch it in 2nd on a slippery tarmac, it will go sideways as usual, after 5-10mins it starts to lose power, then if i try to get it sideways around a corner mid corner it will stop spinning the wheels in 2nd. It feels like there's a ton less torque/power.
I've put the DIS program and ran a VANOS test, it passed. While driving i took a look at the values, it quickly jumps to the "nominal" value for both cams.
There are no fault codes in the ECU.
I checked the fuel pump pressure while hot, it's good at 5bar.
The spark plugs aren't that old and when i remove a coil the car will misfire on that cylinder.
I was just searching for how to diagnose a bad coil when i saw this thread https://www.e46fanatics.com/threads/...e-help.851278/
and i saw this post by someone "Ok! I think I have a powerloss of at least 30-40hp. When it is cold and I floor it the rear wheels spins, but when it is hot it is not even loose traction when it is wet in first gear...."
He also has replaced vanos, coolant/ECU/air temp sensors, 3 knock sensors, etc etc.
Anyways hopefully somebody can shed some light on the matter. I was about to get another coil i had and start switching it between cylinders, and there are 2 spark plugs i couldnt check due to the coilpack nuts seizing, although i replaced all 6 not too long ago. Those are my only leads.
PS: around 2 years ago, the car lost a ton of power on the lowend (way more than currently), i thought it was vanos related and i changed the intake cam sensor, then i found out the exhaust solenoid wiring had become unsoldered, so i soldered it back, and the car worked again.
