I was going to put up the Style 81 "Wagon Wheels" but I figured no one would vote for them

Hi,
None of these choices!
Cheers, Dennis!
Style 66, 9” Squared!!!
Set the controls for the heart of the sun
I have the Style 42s, but in standard 17” size. Would like to find a set of 18s for looks but at least the 17s ride better.
Mpar and/or the style 5 in my opinion

I have style 42 in 18”, style 32 in 18”, and E38 M pars. I just put the Mpars on and for some reason I just don’t like them as much as the others. The lip just isn’t as robust as the other choices.
Also, in photos here on the forum they look great on other tourings but i don’t get the same wow factor on mine in person.
Prob just me I’m nuts i guess...

Yer just nuts. 37’s are real nice, But what really makes a nice rim “pop” is your choice of tires. i don’t just pick tires for performance, i also look at how its profile looks. So I've always like how my cars drive with Continental DW and DWS tires, but the profiles on they have, to me, look great, and will make any rim, in my opinion, “pop”. One disappointment with me about the style 66, BMW never offered them in 18”, like they did with the 32’s, and 42’s. If only...
Stephen, those style 81’s were the basic sport wheel option on the ‘01-‘03 525sports. don't know why they don't get much love, they’re not bad looking, I’d like to have a nice clean set like yours, and guys, Stephen cleans everything on his cars at least 5 or 6 times a day, dudes like Superman or something, waxes everything, I’ll bet he claybars the wheels too! But id like to have a set with winter tires, those with 15mm spacers on an E39 would stancetard them out just nice. Anyone want to trade on a perfect set of the 16” style 29’s I have with about 7,000 mile Michelins, Let me know. But they at least need to be round, and no curb rash. Tires need not apply.
There’s another set of wheels never mentioned, kinda like the ‘81’s, but with square holes at the ends of the spokes, next to the hoop, not too many like those either, they were the go to standard 17” rims on Euro sport spec’d i6 E39’s, they made it over here too, but you rarely see them, style 49.

Finally after 4 years on the forum Snotty gave me shit....love it lol.
Like I said I do like them but perhaps I just need to get used to them.
Btw they are mounted on Conti DWS as are all my rims as I feel the same way you do about their profiles.

hey superman ! super wax-the-exhaust-manifold guy...! I think you have images 1 and 2 flipped but I could be stupid. lol...
Snotty - I think the wheel you are referring to was the Style 49. You don't see many of those at all...
Another very underrated wheel on the e39 was the Style 69. I did a set of those (18" staggered ) with some super natty snow tires on a client's 03/540 sport sedan. Very cool setup. He used them one season but never got them installed the 2nd season. We stored winter and summer wheels and wheel/tire sets for our customers (his set was stored with us...) and when he sold the car 2 years later he said I could have that wheel and tire set if I cut him a deal on summers for the e46M3 that replaced the 540. I cut him a deal, then found out that his winter set had gone "missing" from our warehouse. (we had an employee that was walked out by the Feds after I left for selling warranty take off parts on ebay... apparently including multiple customer wheel and tire sets...).
me...well, I ran 42's on the sedan for the longest time but fell into another set of 66's when I got the wagon. Always liked my 66's....

Awww man, I’m sorry. Didn’t know it would have been an honor to be harassed by me, lol. Believe it or not, some don’t enjoy it, so I’m still trying to change. I’m getting old, i guess mellowing out a bit. The other night was a downside of past habits, some of you might have noticed. But this time, I was the one being harassed, and I was really trying to be nice, while still pointing out his unbalanced self issues.... Stupid argument went on all night.
I have a pair of of 8” style 37’s, if i find a pair of the rear 9” I will powder coat the centers a light gun metal grey, and polish the lips, then powder coat crystal clear gloss over the whole thing, or, powder coat The centers satin clear, and treat the polished aluminum with Sharkhyde. I also have a set of style 5’s that have some curb rash, all but one need to be straightened, the inside hoops need some attention. Will be restoring those too.... some day. Style 65’s, i have a full set, I’m sort of tired of them, as i had two sets of them, one set was on my 540, still love them, but they are heavy, and a pain to clean. The extra set, I’ve sandblasted clean, stuck on what color to coat them, tired of the shadow chrome, maybe a light bronze which would be kinda cool on my green wagon. But I’ve been a traditionally silver wheel guy, except on my old 4x4’s. So they are not done yet, I think my brain is, and can’t decide what to do.

My old 530iT on 37’s
That is what I get for using a Euro image. Fixed the image and names. Thank for catching that oops.
Yes, I clay wheels, I normally clean, polish and waxed them 1-2 x a year. At the same time I wash the wheel wells and Armour All or use the 303 Aerospace Protectant.. I know it's anal but a clean car is a happy car. Keeping every thing clean is so easy in total Kung Flu lockdown. Nothing is open. No business meetings, etc. So I just take one out for a buzz down the hwy for 45 mins or so and back for a wipe down and recover. Pretty boring life. I have washed, clayed, polished, waxed 2 x all the vehicles so I have run out of cleaning projects. Switching to house cleaning which is my weekly task along with yard stuff and general home upkeep. The side effect of all of this is the yard looks perfect and I keep seeing room for improvement on everything thing..

Yep, the KungFlu sure has been a boon for the home improvement, car improvement, and gardening businesses. Probably gonna be a boon in a population explosion spurt starting in December or so too.... and filings for divorce.

My wagon (UK spec) came with those style 49s. I have been thinking about getting a full set for winter duty

haha....dude, you know no good deed goes unpunished...!
I'm, with you on the clean-freakishness. It really does alot for a car (or anything for that matter...) to put your hands on it and clean it. Keeps you very in tune with your vehicle's overall condition. My time limits me to what I can do but people still comment about my "habits"...
Kids, work, and being the repair-man-for-everything here definitely digs into my cleanliness 'wants' though. I mean really, how many people detail their mountain bike before they take it bombing down trails...? It was 3 days of waxing, carpet cleaning, leather treating, PM, and misc fixin' little niggling $#!t, etc... just to take the ol' E70 on vacation. ("oh...bless your heart child...you didn't actually think you were gonna eat that sandwich in here did you ???" )
And did I hear you say no meetings ?!?!?!??!???? Holy cow...thanks to KungFlu, I am working from home but that life has blown up between Zoom and Microsoft Teams...! Pretty sure we have meetings to set meetings...
BTW - Good thread Stephen !!

So, i am a big fan of oem sport rims on our cars, but there is a set of Apex rims i really want, and am thinking of throwing my credit card at it..... Used to be, i loved the ARC8’s, but now, it’s the FL5’s in 18x10 square with 265/35/18 DWS Continentals. The rims are a little bit over $400 a piece, forged, flow formed beautiful rims that are very light, i think its a bargain. But I have always been traditionally a silver wheel kinda guy, but the anthracite one will also go well with my green wagon. Or, maybe see if Apex would do them in light bronze.
Set the controls for the heart of the sun
M-pars, because they look good on everything.
Style 32, because they are stock on sport package wagons.
81's on my 02, 525 so i can be Steve-N-VA's twin, LOL.
But now i have a oxford green, and don't want to be snotties, twin, so what to do?
