I recently purchased a 2001 E39 M5 and am looking to replace the undershield as it is currently missing.
From what I have seen a new replacement can cost $350-600 depending on the metal. I found a plastic one for $100 (link below) and am wondering if that will be fine or if I should spring for the metal one. Any thoughts, opinions, etc. would be much appreciated!

The OEM is plastic as well. I haven't seen a metal aftermarket one before, but I personally wouldn't want anything metal under there. I can only imagine it hitting or skidding on something and snapping something. The aftermarket plastic shields that are sold are okay quality. They don't fit perfectly and sometimes need to be sanded down, but get the job done without having to pay exorbitant BMW costs.
