I was quoted between $2500-$3000 for hitch installation that included wiring harness, software update and new bumper? Surely a new bumper is not necessary?
Want to bet it very well may need one, go to reloem.com enter the last seven of the vin at the beginning of the parts film is accessarys look for the hitch get the part number search it to see if you can find the install instructions. BMW hitch installs have always be a pricey affair, what are you planning to tow. And if it is so then a independent shop may be able to do it a little cheaper and after its done I'm sure ther will be some coding involved also

I understand that an OEM hitch will be more expensive to install, partly because of integration into the system, but why would they require a whole new bumper? It doesn't make sense. Normally you take the bumper off, attach the hitch and put it back on...
I couldn't find the installation instructions for OEM hitch anywhere even though the realoem.com suggests that they should be out there.
I have a 2020 X3 M40, it came with the Trailer Hitch installed (it was a loaner car), I believe the option cost just shy of $900. It is pretty cool, it has a 2" hitch with a dual wiring harness all covered up nicely and easily accessible. Let me know if you need a pic.

Every other manufacturer should give up on building their own cars and just make M3s instead.
Just depends on the options the car has we have certainly had to cut bumpers and are your towing or just using it for bicycles
