Fog Lights for 85-87 US Models FOUND

HI All. I have found a solution for those of us with these NLA foglights. It seems that Hella did in fact use these in other cars, Specifically Early Saab 9000s and 900 Aeros.

I bought a pair and the lenses are a perfect fit. Even the outer retaining ring fits perfect. The screws are slightly longer, with a plastic washer, but using the washer they fit in my BMW buckets . I didn't swap out the rear buckets, but they look identical.
The only difference I could find is that these have Hella sticker in the middle of the lens. (they look removbe, but I didnt try) The wiring harness colors are different from BMW and the plug is different. Inside the lens the bulb shade that directs the light is slightly different, but it looks better than the BMW one actually.
The lenses have different Hella Part #s 1nb 004 450-16 for the Saab units versus 1nb 960 501-00 for the BMW, but are idenitcal save for the differences mentioned above.

I've tried searching for just the lenses using that Hella part #, but no luck.

In the pics below, the you can see how they fit. they look too big in a few photos, but it's just the perspective.

A little eBay searching and a lot of good luck. On the front of the lens is a glass cast number that a lot of people think is the part number and I was searching that number on eBay and came across a used one in nearly perfect condition. And on the back it had the correct hella part number for the BMW so I knew it would fit. But the eBay listing said it was for a Saab. So I asked the seller what Saabs this fit and he told me early 9000s and 900 airflows. It was fairly easy to find them after that by searching all the Saab parts places. I bought a pair and the rest is history. Since the glass cast number is the same but the Hella part number on the back is different it was just dumb luck that the eBay seller thought that was from a Saab when in fact it is from a BMW. If it was from a Saab it would have that different hella number on the back like the ones I bought but as I show they're identical save for the Hella sticker and the shade inside.

It actually makes a lot of sense that hella used these in other things. In fact it probably was originally for the Saab and BMW got hella to change the plug and the wiring colors and give it their own part number. I can't imagine hella would have made the casting exclusively for 3 years of US market e24s and a smattering of E30s.

The Saab part # is 9529900.
Tried an internet search and had lots of hits but mostly unavailable. Try eBay.
Also try the Hella part # on ebay search
