I have a 2014 328ixS with 44K miles. Runs great until my wife came home (her daily driver) reporting check engine light is on.
I restarted today and it's still there. Checked iDrive and it says All Systems ok.. checked for service warnings and have none. All good/OK but yet light still lit. Engine sounds good-lifted hood-don't hear any hissing sounds from vacuum hoses.. nothing. Took it for little spin-sounds good, no lag in power.
I checked gas cap-it's tight.
I don't have a code reader-good reason to buy one now but until then-any ideas on the engine light being on but everything seeming ok and idrive not saying a peep about it?
Thanks
-John
The idrive won't usually give you a check control message for a check engine light, unless it's a "Drivetrain Malfunction" error.
It could be literally anything. There are hundreds of reasons the light could come on. Either get your own scan tool (get a real BMW specific scanner, not a generic OBD code reader), or take it to a shop that can read the codes.

Thanks! I bought an OBD-II scanner. It tripped a code for the evap sensor-small leak.
I had a tight cap but maybe seal worn so I bought another gas cap, cleared the error code and restarted the car - all good now.
