Hmm. And I've got a Mishimoto, so we won't be any closer to having a more factory- based setup. But your radiator would have little to do with the block off plate (17112227690) not slotting into the tabs on the side of the aluminum air duct.

Heh, resurrecting this a bit since we talked about it last.

I think I've got everything I NEED, but not 100 sure I have everything I want.

Does the aluminum tray with the cutout mount to the frame just behind where the bumper mounts, with the side ducts sitting inside of it, between the plastic riveted sides and rad? I do see some little rectangular holes, but there aren't any nutserts or anything in there.

-Josh: 1998 S54 E36 M3/4/6 with most of the easy stuff and most of the hard stuff. At least twice. 271k miles. 1994 E32 740il with nothing but some MPars. 93k miles.

Sorry to resurrect and I know this is a topic that's been kind of beaten to death. To properly install a LTW Splitter, is the only issue with the US ducting that it is not cut out for the vertical arms that connect the tray to the carrier? Couldn't you just cut out 51712250643 similarly to the aluminum tray and call it a day? Are there any vertical limitations? I have no intention of running the oil cooler kit.

Yeah, except it's pretty flimsy even before cutting. Though I'm not sure it would need cutting - the center mount sits REALLY far forward, right behind the lower grill mesh. You may not have to cut it at all. Most of the aluminum cutout is for the lower part of the bracket, not the two down posts. And those sit as low as they do to accommodate the oil cooler.

You might be able to get away without needing to touch it...

    Hi guys,

sorry to resurrect the old topic, but I wanted to ask you where exactly the spare part shown in the picture is installed. I bought everything new from BMW because the parts were not installed on my car.

    Thanks for your help

I had the whole front disassembled to retrofit the complete air guide, but this bar just didn't fit anywhere.

For this reason also the question for help, since it has already mounted here people I just wanted to know where exactly. Maybe with a picture that I see it.

    Thanks

I can answer the question myself today.
In my garage I still have an original 1993 radiator with all original attachments. On this was also the bar 51718135939 installed.

Enclosed I send a few pictures where the strip was installed on the original radiator (on the picture is an aftermarked radiator, the 1993 original I have disposed of).

On cars with original oil cooler (like my M3) the strip is not needed (there sits the oil cooler). On my 328i I have installed the strip. Even if I am not clear about the advantages, the strip will surely have some function.

Don't recall this on my 328i. BMW ETK lists it for ever E36 model. Should take a detailed look once.

ps. You have your original 93 radiator, then you say pics are aftermarket as you have disposed of?

Part 51718135939 does not fit the M3 radiator like it does in your pics. It's too short. Attached is a pic of the OE 99 radiator from my M3 with the oil cooler above it for reference only.

I also have the euro 281 radiator and it's the same width as the US M3 radiator.

In case anyone is wondering what the skid plate looks like. It's fairly robust and sturdy but makes no sense to use it if you have the x-brace. Besides it wouldn't fit with the euro plastic covering.

That's interesting. What does it weigh? What's the part number?

I have the convertible one because it's lighter than the x-brace.

It is my understanding that it was only available on the 1993 convertible for a few months but I'm no expert on these cars.

I'll have to dig up the part number.

MParallel you quoted on another post about this before:

The part comes back for the E36 Touring model only when looking it up.

Also listed as "Cover", not "Reinforcement", which makes sense if it's from alu - see my first sentence.

Ah very well. I am not very familiar with everything spanning the whole production run.

That other post, well I have made nearly 17k posts here according the stats, don't recall them all

btw, at first I thought this was yet another cover, the one specific to E36 diesel models. But that is part 51718204491

Looks like there's holes on the bottom of the radiator or the oil cooler radiator do those line up with the bracket?
