How to tell if 2003 325CIC has anti theft system

I’m trying to figure out how to tell if my car has anti theft or not. I have the clown nose on rear view but read elsewhere it could be just for looks I don’t notice it blinking when doors are locked. Any help would be appreciated.

Moved to the model specific discussion area.

As I understand it, all E46 and later BMWs are fitted with an ignition immobilizer. The alarm was a different matter. There have been many discussions in this sub-forum on the topic.

Remove the cover that’s in the center of the interior head liner. That’s where the motion sensor is located. If the area is empty you don’t have an anti-theft system.

You have to code the car to have it blink. PA Soft provide for this and a variety of other options you can change.

Where would that be located in a convertible?

Ahhh, a vert. Definitely not in the soft top. Go to www.realoem.com and enter the last 7 characters of your car’s VIN. Hit enter and bookmark the page. Scroll down to the audio/navigation section. There’s a subsection for the alarm. Coupes and sedans used an ultrasonic sensor. Verts used a radio frequency sensor if I remember right.

The alarm module is located in the trunk. It's a small square white box. About 3 inches square. It should be easy to find on the side of the trunk.

That’s for the tilt sensor is there a motion sensor like there would be in a sedan?

Yes, IIRC the verts use the sonic sensor inside the rearview mirror.

Look for the siren under the hood. If there is no siren there is no alarm.

Yup. You re correct but isn't it also part of the alarm system? My vert did not come with it. I added it when I activated the alarm

For what it's worth my sedan just has the clown nose and it does flash sometimes when the car is locked.

Was the motion sensor located under the console? Was it pre-wired

Installed today siren when locking is very faint can barley hear it. Does that mean the siren is bad?

Maybe, it has a battery built into it, so it will have to charge up. The built-in battery ensures the alarm continues even with no power.

So I would give it a couple of hours and try again.

Correct, the first P/N is for all the other cars, and I am not sure about the second P/N as my understanding of the GM covers all the alarm functions. Have you tried newtis for the componet location?
