1987 325e M20 low redline. upgradeable?
Hey, I have a 1987 325e with a bone stock 2.7 M20 that redlines at 4500 due to the model aiming towards fuel efficiency. I was wondering since the car has a bigger displacement than other M20’s, would it be worth building this engine and turbocharging it. And is there a way I can make the redline much higher say at like 7-9 thousand rpm’s?? Please let me know and thank you. I just joined this forum by the way, nice to be in it.
A chip gets rid of the redline but you can float the valves, which is bad
No e30s again.
For turbo application use a 325 ‘I’ head, on the (non-Super ETA) 2.7 block.
(I think) It has dual valve springs and more journal supports (and different cam.)
Then need to go to full dual exhaust.

Back when I worked at h& b BMW they would use a 528 block and an 325 head as I recall
