    '85 745i tuneup questions

Well it's all new to me! '85 754i. 105000mi. It runs! I'm fixing to do a tune up and are the Bosch W 8 DC still the best? It has had an intermittent crank but no start thing according to the previous owner but so far, after some connection cleaning, all seems to be working...well at least for the 20 miles I've driven it. I'm off to get fresh gas and was wondering if injector cleaner additive is a good idea in these? I've been reading as much as I can here, wow, the knowledge base is very extensive, so thanks all!

    Nice find!

Best to pull the injectors and have serviced. I use Cruzin Performance in Michigan. W8DC are fine if you find them or just use BP5ES NGK. NO resistor plugs.
    I make E23 parts.

Thanks again! When looking (searching) for filters etc., 745i (M106) does not show up on many sites. I struggled at the vendor listings as well...Am I destined to frequent the dealership or is there another way to search.

Nice car! Most all the maintenance items required are the same as the standard M30 engines. FCP Euro and Blunttech are good sources for parts.

You won’t find the 745i listed on most US parts supplier sites. My suggestion is to use realoem.com to source part numbers that may cross reference to other vehicles. All of the turbo related parts will be specific to the 745i and most are NLA.

Congrats on the purchase and have fun!

Or deal with folks like me that can supply stuff.

Change oil. Use 20/50 VR1 now that it is summer, I would consider a quick fill and flush with 15/40 Diesel too. These have large clearances and do not have roller followers. Lash the valves, 0.012" sounds right. Verify vac lines are in correct spots, chances are they are not.

These also came without a catalyst. OE exhaust was dual 2", make sure yours is not choked down...they often are that way. I had one that had a SINGLE 2" aftermarket garbage cat on it.

I used Leather Honey products. Don't overdo it, the uncoated leather will absorb conditioner to the point of saturation and you don't want that (over conditioning weakens the leather and makes it gummy) Leather Honey softened my good condition but hard water buffalo leather, and it stayed soft long term w/o having to reapply it.

I have used Leatherique and Colorplus too. Both work well.

Also, I was in a beautiful 745i that had Colour-Lock applied. Looked and felt fabulous. It is made for the aniline leather and has some very light pigment in it in your color.
