hey guys need some guidance, I'm selling my 1991 325iX and have been asked to do a jack test to confirm awd is working properly. I've not heard of this. I saw a youtube video that looked pretty sketchy. Any guidance here?
Need a good quality wide base jack and the smoothest concrete surface you can find , jack car up till rears are just off the ground and it will only use fronts to move the car . Hop in start and try to drive the car very slowly I 1st gear if car moves Viscous coupling in Tcase is good. If it doesn't move(just spins rear wheels) Viscous coupling is bad .it is still awd but the coupling lock effect isnt working

How about the potential buyer sets up an appointment at a qualified shop and gets the car looked over.
You don't have to put up with this request. At least, I wouldn't.

Have the potential new owner take the car to an independent BMW shop and pay for a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI). If I were purchasing, I would insist on a shop of my choosing (and we could debate who would pay)

Thanks guys I appreciate the responses. It is posted on Bring a Trailer, buyers are remote.
When I bought mine the PO had a video of him doing it. I mean I believe it's fairly low risk, just jack up the rear diff, but if your not comfortable doing that be safe not sorry. Worst case you'd slip off the jack, but you'd be safe in the car, but you may damage something? Again, it isn't particularly smart I suppose.
And when the jack slips off off the Rear differential It smashes into the spare tire well. Ask me how I know.
Why not just tell the buyer you will hose down the street with water and rip a couple of burn outs?
Would that be the sellers grass, or the buyers grass?
