1988 735i Can't get oil or service reset to clear by shorting pins 7 and 19

Previous 'brake pressure' and 'check engine' alarms cleared by themselves when I corrected the respective causes. However, have tried several times to reset the oil and service resets to no avail even after disconnecting the battery and trying again. Do the 'brake pressure' and 'check engine' codes have to be cleared in the ecm first? Also, have never been able to get the stored codes, or any thing else, to appear by using the stomp method.

brake pressure warning and check engine go away when fault repaired after xy restarts of the engine
o reset the service indicator after performing an oil-service or an inspection:
    1. With the ignition off connect pin 7 (SI reset) with pin 19 (gnd). Remember to fuse this wire or to use a resistor just to be safe.
    2. Turn the ignition to position 2.
    3. Pull the wire out after about 5 seconds to get an oil reset or 10 seconds for an inspection reset.
    3. Now replace the cap on the diagnostic connector.
    4. Turn off the ignition.

what month/year is your car? US spec model or different country? Only US spec cars have this feature to get stomp codes. Very early DME's like the M1.1 built within 1987 and early 1980 had such problems even when it is US spec that they could not make a stomp test, I have read. Pelican parts says 735i/iL E32 M30/B35 86-88 0261200 150 Bosch Motronic M1.1, 735i/iL E32 M30/B35 (211hp) 89-92 0261200 179 Bosch Motronic M1.3
The old DME M1.1 has only a limited space to store faults anyway.
Motronic 1.1 1987 to 1988: The ECU will store a maximum of 5 fault codes. Motronic 1.3 from 1989: The fault code memory is extended to contain all fault codes that are detected by the EMS. In vehicles sold in the USA, when the ECU detects that a some faults are present it earths pin 15 and the Check Engine warning lamp on the dash will light. The lamp will stay lit until the fault is no longer present. A warning lamp is not fitted to vehicles sold in other markets. The faults that will turn on the lamp are mainly those concerned with emissions. Other faults are logged by the ECU but the lamp will remain out. My 735i is a 10/87 build. I've tried the steps above several times and still can't get the oil/service to reset even after leaving the shorting wire in for a couple minutes or so. That's why I thought maybe the fault codes needed to be cleared first. The check engine light cleared when is replaced a shorting spark plug boot. I currently have no alarms on the dash. My DME is a 1.3 according to the Bentley manual.

I highly recommend picking up a $10-13 oil and service reset tool on eBay and not mess with jumpers.

my 735i is 11/87 and we do not get the luxury of stomp testing, unfortunately

I also could never get the oil/service reset to work by jumping the pins. Not sure why - but glad i'm not alone. I also have an SRS light on after foolishly disconnecting the steering wheel without unhooking the battery. Can't get that to go away even with a professional laptop with BMW software - frustrating.

This is the one I use:

    REMOVED

    EDIT
I just tried on my 12/87 735 and it did NOT give me 5 green bars upon pressing service interval reset. I have removed the link I previously posted.

For clarification, what I'm trying to accomplish is to get the first of the five green oil service interval lights to energize. I only have four green lights lit now. The 735i has 10,600 original miles and was in storage for 25 years. I've changed the oil/filter and was trying to get all five green lights to light as a result of the oil reset being reset. The problem could be that the first green light bulb/led is burned out and I thought the oil reset wasn't resetting when it actually was.

    Please.... pict...

As for stomp test our 94 740 stomp test does not work... and the reset by shorting did not do squat either...

reset: check pin 19, Peake has some info on page 39 troubleshooting / common problems http://www.peakeresearch.com/manuals...201.0%20NA.pdf
observe than pin 19 of your diagnostic connector is not recessed, a number of models in the early 1990s has pin 19 improperly installed
