life ( for me)for a few yrs has been nuts.........now corona..........
I need a new vcg on my 240k orig set up m52TU 2.8 coupe....its leaking bad
my anxiety is that after eyeballing it yesterday I dont see how I can get my hands to the bolts back by the firewall........ I could maybe get it off...but I fear I wont b able to get it re installed?
how can I partially detach the black plastic harness cover that spans that area from pass to driver side?.... how can I detach it to get more hand room?
Hey brother. I understand the anxiety, and while I haven't done this myself... It looks like you can open up the casing for the wire harness and then pull that casing off of the firewall. It should be pretty easy... I've done valve covers on much harder cars, I'm sure you can do it.

I usually stick a long extension through the wires (carefully) to get those. Think for the other one just a deep 10mm on a ratchet
The wiring harness box is only attached with two phillips from the top. Easy to move if its in the way. Brackets are also very soft, it can just be moved (pushed/bent) if you need a little mote clearance.
Dont overthink this. Its the simplest job you can do. Dont forget to replace the rubber donuts under the washers.

lower lt frt fender.....arctic?
I just finished replacing my entire cooling system and crankcase ventilation system which entailed removing the intake manifold.
You are correct that the back of the engine space is tight between the engine and the firewall. I too chose to disconnect the bracket and plastic channel that holds the wiring harness. The top of it came of steadily and relatively easy by using a small flat screwdriver to gently open the plastic clips around the front and side edges of the channel. The top piece separates from the rest of the channel.
Then there are two nuts, one on each side of the channel, underneath it that hold it to the firewall. I used an extension on my 1/4 inch ratchet to remove these nuts. There are studs that are attached to the firewall that these nuts are attached to.
Once I removed the two nuts, I was able to move the channel and harness up and out of the way. It only took 15-20 minutes and is pretty easy.
You can do it.
Ok. Did it. After life and anxiety held me back for over almost 2 yrs
Loosening and removing harness box did help for area back by firewall
Amazed how ez the nuts/donuts released. a fter 20 yrs and 245 k miles
The donuts looked fresh and the vcg was not ! brittle. All original
Strange how only one donut gave me grief upon install. It kept going askew and oozing out upon tightening
I’ll just watch it
Oh !
I lost 2 coil pack bolts
Any1 have some spares?????
Thnx to all for the support
