OK I'm almost afraid to ask. My 2013 E70 LCI 35xi with 79k [73k when purchased] regularly serviced before and since I purchased her, has a service due warning light. It says "brake fluid!" REALLY?! Is this a correct service reminder OR has my brake fluid mysteriously lost it's value? [Anxiously awaiting...] SMH...
TIA!

BMW and most other European auto manufacturers recommend/required a periodic replacement/flush of brake fluid.
Our e70's are programmed to remind us to do the maintenance item.
It is based on time rather than mileage because of the water absorption properties of the brake fluid.

Brake fluid is hydroscopic meaning the brake fluid draws water from the air into it over time and dilutes the effectiveness of it because of the water content has increased, contaminating it. Interesting note honey is also hydroscopic so when you bake with honey the muffins or what ever don't dry out as easy.
Interesting. I just told my girlfriend about the honey.
Thanks everyone.

Kind of surprised you haven‘t come across this before since you’ve been here since 2011...but yeah...BMW recommends 2 Yr -3 Yr brake fluid changes due to hygroscopic nature of the fluid. See info below to verify we’re not talking out the side of our necks

Qsilver7! How the hell are you man?!
Yep, started out on here with a 295k e39 M62 that I was working on for one reason or another and I think the rear wheel speed sensor needing to be replaced might have had something to do with never getting that notification but always having [as you know] the "trifecta." That's a whole 'mother story...
Anyway as always thanks for your input. I'll get it shortly...

Bonus points if someone can tell us where the moisture is absorbed from in a sealed system.

Through the rubber hoses, from the vent in the cap of the fluid resevoir, from the piston seals (o-rings) in the calipers, to name a few.
