Hey, just wondering if there's anyone around (Albany, NY) willing to help a fellow e36 convertible owner with some maintenance projects on a 1998 M3, full auto convertible top: tension straps for sure, maybe tonneau struts, headliner, window, soft top .
I'm bringing beer and/or cash. These projects are a little daunting on my own, would rather get some help from someone whose done them before. No good Youtube videos, I can find.
Shoot me a PM.

I did this project last summer with the Haartz Stayfast top off eBay. I don’t recall it being especially difficult just time consuming. Got my significant other to help where two sets of hands were necessary. Also replaced the tension straps. Replacement top looks good although would have preferred a zip in window. Good luck with your project - not in your zip code so afraid I can’t be of much help.
Bumping this up...still on the project list. Thanks!
Hello, my friend. I live in Mane and own two 1999 verts. A 323ic and an M3.
I have replaced the top, tension straps, and headliner in both of these cars by myself. I had zero experience but I was able to purchase a DVD put out by a guy who had been installing new tops for over 40 years. I believe it was AOK productions.
With that DVD, I set up a player and large monitor in my garage and was able to pause at any point so I could perform exactly what he was doing. He was replacing the top on a 1995 325i. There wasn't much difference in the top and tension strap installation between the '95 and my '99's but there was quite a difference in the headliner. In my '99's it was much simpler that what he had to do for the '95.
I took about a week to do each one because I had to pause and rewind and pause and rewind constantly to fully grasp how he was doing it. If you are in a hurry, have a shop do it.
I don't know if the DVD's are still available online...might be worth trying.
