Budget Build Turbo Selection

In the process of resurrecting my build and want to try my hand at fabricating as much as possible this go around.

I sold my TRM kit which was running a GTX3582r with a T4 SPA. Spool was amazing and all around great turbo but I’m not as rich as I once was so I’m committing to a sub $1k turbo for this build.

after watching a few of franks videos (E36 HateR) from a couple years back, I’ve been thinking the HX40 might be the ticket. I’m still exploring options.

What other turbos do you guys recommend?

I wanted to do a billet Hx40 6064 on my build mainly because its a weird in-between size. I ended going with a Apex Performance Turbo APX362 6268 on a built 2.9l with a .82 ar V band inlet and it makes 14psi at about 4200. Spending a grand on a journal bearing turbo just feels wrong

An HX35 can give you 550WHP too, and spools pretty good.
cheap too.
