Underhood wiring and hose routing questions

I am correcting the wiring mess under the hood (wires and hoses were routed wrong). The car in question is 1981 1.8 320i. I am trying to figure the following:

    1) Hot wire from the battery to the starter terminal. Does it go along the engine block behind the dipstick/AFM, or it goes along the inner fender by the charcoal canister and underneath the brake booster. How does it mount/attaches?

    2) Charcoal canister- does it suppose to create a vacuum leak and does it matter which hose goes where? How the hose from the canister into the throttle body routed? Anyone knows where to get the replacement?

    2) Dipstick has a rubber hose on the bottom, where the tube connects to the oil pan. Is it just a standard piece of rubber hose (looks like 8x13 fuel hose) or it is some kind of special hose? I am having a hard time figuring out how the dipstick should be oriented. It has always been too close to the manifold and was hard to insert/remove.

    Thank you,
    Max

    Cool

1.) It goes where you feed it or where it fits the best its insulated thus non conductive except the ends.

2.) The top hole of the canister goes to the vacuum -intake mainfold, bottom to the evaporation line hose,, FCP Euro is where I bought my Carbon Canister, they still have them w/ lifetime warranty.

3.) As long as it fits both ends tight( plus clamps) should not be a problem, oil resistance is a plus for the rubber tube piece.

Yes, factory one is NLA, I found and bought this ebay one last night. Is this foam part necessary? What is it for, to filter dirt? Purolator part looks identical to the original one and e21/30 airboxes were made by Purolator which makes it OE part.

    Thanks for the link!

Got that charcoal canister, looks identical to OE but without foam pad. Looks like there is foam inside, maybe it does not need outside foam? Hard to believe that a new Purolator part needs modifications. Did you just glue some foam on it?

    Thanks,
