I bought an m60/6 swap drive-train. It has a jb racing flywheel, a new OEM 265mm e34 540i clutch, and an m62 6 speed. Will the m62 6 speed with 1.125" splines work fine in the 1.375" clutch? I'm worried it might cause a clutch issue under hard use due to the 0.25" difference. Has anyone else used this before?
Data found in Grageaholic's M60 swap guide:
E34 540i/6 speed uses the 10 spline 1.375” count
E39 540i/6 speed uses the 10 spline 1.125” count
I am doing an M60 build for a Porsche Boxster with a Porsche transmission. In my opinion, the clutch has to fit the splines exactly. Any play is going to cause issues. It took me three clutch plate orders before I found the right one! Good luck.
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. For me, it seems the best solution will be to get an E34 540i 6-speed transmission (luckily I know one available) to avoid any mishaps with the E34 540i clutch. When I do my m60b46 stroker motor I'll get an m62 clutch to use with my m62 6-speed.
I don't think the E39 measurement is correct. As far as I'm aware, it should be the same size as the E34 input shaft.
TerraPhantm, I think you might be right about the measurements being wrong. I just found a clutch alignment tool in the parts the guy gave me. It seems to fit fine on both the e34 540i 265mm clutch on the engine and the spare e39 540i 240mm clutch that I was given. I feel the m62 trans will work fine now unless anyone else has actually done this setup and experienced a difference.
Did you ever figure it out? I have a M60B40 from a '97 740i, with a UUC M5 flywheel/clutch, with a 420G from a '95 540i. and everything works just fine and I abuse it on the track, if that helps.

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue
