I have my business cd stereo code - 44423. My battery died and after putting a new one in, it's presenting "code ----" instead of 5 digits, it's only 4.
And when I try to enter the code, it acts all kinds of funny - each button operates on a digit. Not the way it typically works.
Last summer I poked around in some of the hidden menus to enable a mute feature... What did I break?
Help me! Thanks.
Just realized thread says battery dude... Kinda funny, should be died... Autocorrect...

I read on another forum that 5 digits is for US cars, 4 digits for EU cars. Supposedly, you can switch locations by holding down the M button for 10-15 secs. When you see the SN pop up, use the > to find Area, then the "1" button to cycle through regions. YMMV. Or Google it.
i was afraid if that - i don't think it'll let me change regions if it's locked.
some of the tweaks i made last year might have put it in euro mode. i'll see if i can change it, but i expect this to be a problem... i'm a pessimist.
Cheers,
Phil
It would make sense that it locks you out but the guy that wrote this was specifically talking about having having a code with the wrong number of digits for unlocking. He said this was the solution, even dealers use it.
There is a way to do it. Let me get the instructions and I will get back to you.

He's right about the m button, plus the newer z3 radio can be a bit tough to enter the code compared with the earlier radios
i'll try to get to this today - will see if i can change region. if not, no biggie - it'll be a while before i'm driving it anyway. i'll post back if i can't change region.
thanks for help!
