I have a 04 330CI with a soft top. The top light on the dash stays illuminated and the top will not go down. I did some troubleshooting and checked all of the related fuses to no avail. Any ideas?
You need to set yourself up with a good BMW scanner so you can read the trouble codes and monitor the operation of the top.
Here are a couple of suggestions:
- Foxwell NT530 with BMW software installed. Buy only from a reputable supplier as the Chinese knock off's on E-bay don't work. http://www.foxwelltool.com/wholesale...installed.html
- INPA set up on an old laptop with the special cable https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...xperimentation

Ok, so I lost my job due to covid so the scanner will have to wait. Does anybody have any suggestions that I can try now?
Do the windows still drop a little when you try to open the roof?
There are several things that will prevent the roof from even beginning the opening the procedure and they include: Trunk is open (or the CVM believes it to be). The luggage arm is in FULL mode. Any one window that does not operate will also prevent opening.
Reviving this old thread. I went all summer with no convertible top. Due to Covid, my job loss lasted well into late summer and the financial struggle lingered for a bit afterwards.
The top does nothing when you push the top down button. No windows roll down, no unlock. The red lock comes on and just stays red while you hold the button.
I finally sprung for the Foxwell code reader and it was delivered today. Here is what I saw... ( I don't really think all of these are top related but just sharing all)
-Motor Electronics2 DME Fault1
-Dynamic Stability Control MK60 E5 DSC/DXC - Fault 2
-Switching centre, centre console LKM - Fault 1
-Basis Interface Telephone Telefon - Fault 1
-Airbag ZAE Fault1
-Rollover Sensor UEB - Fault 1
-Convertible top module CVM Fault 2
-This was a lot more than I thought I'd see!!
Can anyone help decipher?
Anyone?
When you have that list on the scanner. Highlight the module you want to look into and push the "enter" button. The scanner will show you the list of codes for that module.
Post the code number and description and we'll help.

Check the wiring harness that runs long the left side, delivers side of the top it brings power to the latches, it can break over time.
