Car has been running great since I bought it. It has high mileage on it.
I just turned 129000 miles and right when I hit 129k it threw Drivetrain Malfunction. Almost like it was programed to do it!!!
The car is in great shape other than that. You would never guess it has that many miles on it by looking at it. It is a 2014 328i rear wheel drive. N20 F30.
The engine starts, idles and revs fine. No indication of problem with the engine at all. So far I have installed new plugs, coils and belt along with new tensioner
last month before this happened. As I said it has been running great.
Yesterday morning I went out to start it and it started fine BUT it threw the Drivetrain Malfunction and the Idrive said contact the dealership. Pretty nice the way they have that setup. It stays in park and will not go into drive or reverse.
If I cant fix it that poses a problem to have it taken to the BMW dealer for service. I do have the Foxwell NT510 scanner. I hooked it up and pulled these faults. Any advise or comments are welcome. Hopefully anyone that has experienced or knows about this will chime in. At this point I cant even put it into neutral for a tow truck. Thanks all!!!
That problem suggests a wiring break or an issue with mechatronics. I'd need to look up that code exactly to see what it means.
Unfortunately, the Foxwell doesn't give enough info or detail. Typically you'd need a shop that has ISTA-D or similar that gives you access to wiring diagrams, test plans, and such to trace the problem.

I agree with the fact that there's not enough info to make any positive diagnosis.

Thanks for the response. I removed the trans cover and screwed in the 5mm screw that disengaged the parking position allowing it to be pulled up on a flat bed.
I had it taken to Erhard BMW stealership to have it diagnosed. Hopefully they won't give me some astronomical cost when they give me a quote for repairs.
probably need a mechatronics + programming
